Emporia State University’s women’s soccer program has been knocking on the door of the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship for several seasons, and the latest edition appears ready to turn that promise into reality.
Guided by head coach Jane Grimley‑Gunn, who began her tenure three years ago, the program has cultivated a culture of consistency. Grimley‑Gunn has repeatedly emphasized that the current roster possesses the depth and cohesion needed to finally break through.
A key factor has been the team’s performance last year, when the Hornets recorded nine wins and advanced to the conference semifinals for the fourth time in five seasons. That showing not only validated the coaching staff’s philosophy but also highlighted the benefits of a larger, more versatile squad.
A Season of Opportunity
The Hornets will test their mettle right away, opening the season on August 27 at Drury University. The matchup against the Bulldogs offers an early barometer for a schedule that could see Emporia State contend for its first MIAA title.
