Clemson's football program announced the verbal commitment of Gary Walker, a four-star running back, to its 2027 recruiting class, marking a significant addition to the Tigers' offensive backfield.
A Recruit With Proven Production
Walker, who attends Creekside High School in Fairburn, Georgia, compiled 1,669 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on 178 carries during his junior season. The 247Sports Composite ranks him No. 7 in the state and No. 145 nationally among prospects.
His decision narrowed to Clemson, Penn State, Florida and Florida State, with the Tigers emerging as his final choice. The commitment reflects a growing trend of top-tier talent opting for the ACC powerhouse.
Impact on a Developing Class
Walker becomes the third offensive commit in Clemson's 2027 group, joining quarterback Kharim Hughley and wide receiver Trey Wimbley. The class now stands at nine pledges and holds a national ranking of No. 20.
The addition also marks the fourth player from Georgia to join the Tigers' haul, alongside linebacker Max Brown and safety Harrison Luke, underscoring the state's continued influence on the program.
Coach Dabo Swinney praised the signing, noting that Walker's blend of size, speed and work ethic aligns perfectly with Clemson's offensive philosophy. The coaching staff sees him as a cornerstone for future success.
