Spotlight on Talent
Tommy Wade, a former collegiate basketball player and longtime assistant coach, opened the doors of the Wade Family Gymnasium in Hopkinsville for his first ever basketball camp, inviting young athletes to experience a full day of skill work and competition.
The eight‑hour seminar blended fundamental drills — 1‑on‑1, 2‑on‑2, 3‑on‑3, and 5‑on‑5 games — with a shooting contest that tested participants from every angle, creating an energetic atmosphere that lasted from morning until evening.
Among the standout performers was seventh‑grader Trent Leavell, who captured the shooting skills championship by sinking a diverse array of shots within a 30‑second window, while fellow competitor Traevion Moss, a hopeful high‑school prospect, attended the camp wearing his Nike Ja Morant 3s and spoke of his dream to follow in the star’s footsteps.
Wade closed the event with motivational reflections, urging the campers to review their performances and carry the lessons learned into future training, a message that resonated with the eager crowd.
The Boys & Girls Club of Hopkinsville‑Christian County, which has benefited from Wade’s previous donations and facility upgrades, organized the camp and announced plans to host it twice a year, providing a recurring platform for talent evaluation and community engagement.
