A Strategic Boost for the Defense
Indiana University announced that linebacker Kellan Wyatt has rejoined the football roster, taking advantage of an extra year of eligibility granted by a recent NCAA rule expansion.
Wyatt’s return comes after a knee injury in a 38‑13 loss to Michigan State sidelined him for the remainder of the season, including the team’s playoff run.
During his previous stint he recorded 27 tackles, 12 solo, eight forced fumbles, 2.5 sacks and seven quarterback pressures across seven games, providing a measurable boost to the defense.
Head coach Curt Cignetti emphasized that Wyatt’s experience adds depth, while defensive coordinator Bryant Haines will decide how best to integrate him, potentially slotting him at linebacker in the team’s 4‑3 scheme and 12 personnel packages.
The coaching staff has said they will be patient with Wyatt’s recovery, focusing on full health before committing him to a full‑time role.
The rule change also benefited other players, such as Stephen Daley, who missed the playoff run due to injury but now stands to gain from the extended eligibility window.
With the defensive line reshaping and the secondary looking to tighten up, Wyatt’s versatility could prove pivotal as the Hoosiers aim to climb the Big Ten standings.
