Buford High School in Georgia recently opened a $62 million football stadium that stands as the most expensive high school venue in the state. The facility, named Phillip Beard Stadium, was built using only the city’s general and enterprise funds, eliminating the need for any bonded debt.
With a seating capacity of 10,000, the stadium also houses 15 luxury suites that command $15,000 per season, one of which is owned by the city while the remaining fourteen are available for purchase, including units held by former NFL players and corporate partners.
Honoring a Community Legend
The stadium bears the name of Phillip Beard, a longtime chairman of the Buford City Commission and School Board who has steered the district for more than five decades. His stewardship helped shape the school’s athletic tradition and cemented his legacy in the community.
State‑of‑the‑Art Features
Inside, a double‑sided 44‑by‑82‑foot jumbotron not only showcases game action but also generates additional revenue streams for the district. A multi‑purpose fieldhouse provides space for pregame meals and displays trophies that chronicle Buford’s 15 state championships, including a recent GHSA Class 6A title.
A refurbished victory bell from the 1800s greets visitors at the entrance, linking the new structure to the school’s historic roots. Standing‑room areas and premium seating expand the venue’s capacity far beyond the official 10,000 seats, allowing thousands more fans to experience the action.

The project was funded entirely from the city’s general and enterprise funds, a decision that avoided debt and underscored fiscal responsibility. The stadium now serves as a centerpiece for Friday night games, tailgate gatherings and other local traditions, reinforcing Buford’s reputation for athletic excellence.
