Dawn Staley, the longtime architect of South Carolina’s women’s basketball resurgence, has agreed to a contract extension that will carry her through the 2026‑27 season. The deal includes a $4.5 million base salary, up from $4.2 million a year earlier, and a tiered bonus structure that can add anywhere from $15,000 to $500,000 based on performance.
The extension comes on the heels of a historic 36‑4 campaign that saw the Gamecocks fall just short of the national title, losing to UCLA in the championship game. The near‑perfect record has cemented the program’s reputation as a perennial powerhouse and set the stage for another title run.
All five assistants—Lisa Boyer, Wendale Farrow, Jolette Law, Mary Wooley and Khadijah Sessions—have also received extensions. Wooley’s compensation will climb from $227,520 to $232,070, while Sessions’ salary will rise from $85,125 to $86,827, reflecting the university’s commitment to retaining its core coaching talent.
Support staff members Ariana Moore, director of operations, and Tracy Murphy, assistant director of operations, have been rewarded with renewed contracts as well, ensuring continuity behind the scenes.
The moves follow a broader slowdown in the coaching carousel that has swept across college basketball in recent years. With fewer vacancies and a growing emphasis on stability, extensions such as these are becoming a common strategy for programs seeking to protect their competitive edge.
