Central to the campaign were three player‑led outreach projects. Nic Dowd and his wife Paige expanded Dowd’s Crowd, a sensory‑friendly ticket and kit program that awarded $30,111 in grants to So Kids SOAR and KultureCity. Tom Wilson created Forty Three’s Friends, which provides tickets and meet‑and‑greet experiences for families served by Make‑A‑Wish Mid‑Atlantic and United Heroes League. Charlie Lindgren and Mikkayla launched Lindy’s Lineup, a 2023 initiative that partners with So Kids SOAR to deliver adaptive skate events and other inclusive activities.
Lindgren’s contributions were recognized with the Caps Care Community Award for 2025‑26, an honor that includes a $20,000 grant split between So Kids SOAR and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. The award also featured matching funds from the MSE Foundation and Lindy’s Lineup, underscoring the collaborative nature of the effort.
Additional community impact came from Pierre‑Luc Dubois, Tom Wilson and Elliot Segal’s So Kids Can program, which pledged $50 for each Capitals win to Go Play DC, benefiting youth sports programs in Wards 5, 6, 7 and 8. Alex Ovechkin’s Ovi’s 8’s program continues to donate eight season tickets annually to the American Special Hockey Association, supporting 144 programs nationwide and more than 9,200 athletes. Ovechkin also leveraged his Ovi’s Great Crunch Cereal brand, raising over $256,000 for The GR8 CHASE for Victory Over Cancer, a pediatric cancer research initiative.
Beyond direct donations, Ovechkin hosted adaptive hockey clinics for ASHA athletes, covering ice‑time costs for 136 teams and reaching over 5,260 players and 400 coaches. Logan Thompson and Linnea Thompson contributed to the Humane Rescue Alliance through the Uncork for a Cause event, further expanding the Capitals’ philanthropic footprint.
The cumulative effect of these projects has been felt throughout the District and surrounding states, reinforcing the team’s commitment to community engagement, youth development, and adaptive sports access in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland.
