Liberty University Stars Earn Spots in South Africa’s 2026 World Cup Squad

Paris Gail-Isaacs and Ntsopa Mokoena bring Olympic experience to the national team as they gear up for the upcoming tournament

South Africa's national women's field hockey team has announced a 32‑player roster that includes two alumni of Liberty University, Paris Gail‑Isaacs and Ntsopa Mokoena, both of whom bring a blend of Olympic experience and collegiate excellence to the squad.

A Milestone for Liberty and South Africa

The upcoming 2026 FIH Women's World Cup will take place from August 15 to 30 in the Belgian town of Wavre and the Dutch city of Amstelveen, marking the 16th edition of the competition.

Both players have represented South Africa at the senior level, with Isaacs earning 18 caps and becoming the youngest member of the Olympic squad at the recent Paris Games, while Mokoena boasts 49 caps and has featured in multiple Junior World Cups.

Isaacs concluded her rookie season with the Lady Flames in 2025, starting 14 of 16 appearances, and will now join Mokoena, who is set to begin her freshman year at Liberty this fall after committing to the program on May 6.

Their selections underscore the growing impact of Liberty's field hockey program on the international stage and highlight the university's role in developing talent that competes at the highest levels of the sport.

As the team prepares for the tournament, the duo will look to translate their collegiate success into performances that could help South Africa make a deep run in Belgium and the Netherlands.
