A Legacy of Service
Colin Simmons, a defensive end for the Texas Longhorns, has been selected for the 2026 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy watch list, an honor that celebrates college football players who make a tangible difference beyond the gridiron.
Simmons’ impact stretches into the Dallas community, where he founded Clay's Color Crew in 2024, a nonprofit that provides resources and support to families affected by autism in underserved neighborhoods of South Dallas.
On the field, Simmons has emerged as one of the most disruptive pass rushers in the SEC, leading the conference with 12 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss in the 2025 season while earning preseason first‑team All‑SEC and Walter Camp All‑American recognition.
His performance has already drawn multiple SEC Co‑Defensive Lineman of the Week honors, including awards after victories over Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Oklahoma, underscoring his consistency against top competition.
Simmons joins a distinguished lineage of Texas alumni who have captured the Wuerffel Trophy, with Michael Taaffe winning in 2025 and Sam Acho taking the honor in 2010, a testament to the program’s tradition of service‑oriented excellence.
The trophy’s selection process involves a committee and fan voting, with the winner to be announced on December 11, 2026, a timeline that places Simmons among the early favorites as the Longhorns prepare to open the 2026 season against Texas State on September 5 at Darrell K Royal‑Texas Memorial Stadium.
