A revamped non‑conference agenda
Florida’s athletic department released the complete non‑conference slate on Tuesday, confirming 14 games that will precede the start of SEC competition. The schedule was crafted to balance the rigors of a demanding 2025‑26 season with a more manageable 2024‑25 slate, giving the Gators a chance to fine‑tune their roster while still testing themselves against quality opponents.
Six of those games will be played at neutral sites, including three matchups in‑state that are intended to bolster the strength‑of‑schedule metric. For the first time since the 2020‑21 campaign, Florida will skip the traditional Thanksgiving tournament, opting instead for three contests in the Players Era event held in Las Vegas.
One of the most anticipated neutral‑site games is the homecoming against Duke, marking the first meeting at the O’Connell Center in nearly nine decades. The ACC‑SEC Challenge will also see Florida open the season against Miami, followed by a showdown with Florida State and a early‑season clash with Notre Dame.
The non‑conference slate also brings familiar foes back into the mix. The Miami Hurricanes return with key returnees such as Shelton Henderson and Caleb Gaskins, while the Seminoles will field a rebuilt squad featuring transfers Sebastian Rancik and Kameron Taylor. Texas will visit Gainesville, offering another early test as the Gators look to improve on a 0‑4 start to the SEC opener in the previous season.
Adding depth and experience, the schedule includes former NBA players on the roster of Long Island and Florida A&M, providing veteran presence that could prove decisive in close contests. The Gators enter the season riding a wave of momentum from a 9‑4 record and a SEC title in 2025‑26, and they are aiming for a sixth straight conference championship and a higher NCAA tournament seed than the previous year’s second‑round exit.
