Green River Pirates Stumble in Panguitch Tournament

Three losses expose pitching struggles as the team prepares for a home rematch

The Green River Pirates embarked on a two‑day swing through Panguitch, Utah, where they met three opponents in the local tournament.

Pitching Woes and Offensive Sparks

Their first test came against Altamont, a team that surged to a 20‑1 victory, with the Longhorns exploding for 19 runs in just four innings; Jesus Escalante and David Mendez were among the few Pirates who managed to get on base.

A second match pitted the Pirates against the Wayne Badgers, who rolled past them 17‑2; Cooper Meadows and Jet Harrison managed to chip in the only runs for Green River.

The final game of the stretch saw Bryce Valley dominate with a 22‑13 win; David Mendez and Cooper Meadows each drove in two runs and added an RBI, but the Pirates' defense faltered as the Valley team piled on runs across the third through sixth innings.

Across all three contests the Pirates' pitching was unable to contain the opposition, with Ernan Mendez, Jaziel Hernandez and Gabriel Quintana surrendering multiple runs in each outing.

Despite the losses, Green River will return home on August 11 to face Altamont again, this time at 4:00 p.m., hoping to turn the tide before the next round of games.
