The University of New Mexico’s men’s club hockey team, known as the Ice Lobos, are gearing up for the 2026 season after a strong showing in 2025. A training camp is set to open on August 13, marking the first step toward the upcoming campaign.
This summer the roster will welcome three new forwards, among them Michael Trudeau from San Jose, California, and Michael Longmire from Naperville, Illinois. Both players have voiced enthusiasm about joining the Lobos and contributing to the team’s performance.
Adding to the international flavor, Norwegian forward Sander Selvaer will join the squad from Stavanger, bringing a reputation for elite scoring ability that coaches hope will translate into more goals on the ice.
A New Era for the Lobos
The Lobos will share practice facilities with the New Mexico Goatheads, an ECHL franchise based in Rio Rancho, giving the club access to additional rinks and training resources as they fine‑tune their skills.
Coaching staff will see a familiar face back on the bench: former head coach Grant Harvey is returning as an assistant under new captain Jarrod Ronquillo, who took over the leadership role ahead of the season.
The team’s first official game is scheduled for September 4 against Colorado University in Boulder, followed by a matchup with Colorado State on September 18 at the McDermott Athletic Center, where the Lobos will look to showcase their progress.
With a blend of home‑grown talent, new recruits and a refreshed coaching lineup, the Ice Lobos are poised to make a strong impression in their next chapter.
