Marshall University Announces 2026‑27 Men’s Basketball Schedule

A demanding slate of home games and marquee matchups aims to propel the Thundering Herd back to the top of the Sun Belt

Marshall University’s men’s basketball program has released its full 2026‑27 schedule, a slate that blends home‑court comfort with a gauntlet of national powerhouses. The plan calls for 20 home contests, beginning with two exhibition games on October 22 and 28 before the regular‑season opener on the road against Buffalo on November 2.

Third‑year head coach Cornelius Jackson said the schedule reflects the team’s ambition to compete at the highest level, noting the mix of exhibition games and regular‑season challenges that will test the Herd early in the campaign.

Among the marquee matchups are a visit from North Carolina, a traditional rival, and a showdown with Ohio State, both of which promise to test the Herd early in the campaign.

Non‑conference play will also feature a road appearance in the MAC/Sun Belt Challenge on February 6, with the opponent to be announced.

Sun Belt Showdown

Within the Sun Belt Conference, Marshall will host five home games, highlighted by a New Year’s Eve clash against South Alabama and a final home battle against defending champion Troy on February 26.

The Herd finished the previous season 19‑13 overall and second in the conference at 11‑7, and Jackson believes the tough schedule will provide the experience needed to contend for the title.
