A timely return for the Cowboys' secondary
Dainsus Miller, a Georgia native who began his college career at Mercer before joining the University of Wyoming, is set to suit up for a second season with the Cowboys after a recent court decision granted him an additional year of eligibility.
During his rookie year in Laramie, Miller started seven games and appeared in 11 of 12 contests, recording 27 tackles and breaking up five passes. He also forced a fumble on Colorado running back Micah Welch, a play that highlighted his knack for disrupting opposing offenses.
Head coach Jay Sawvel has spoken highly of Miller’s impact, noting that the veteran presence could stabilize a defensive unit that is looking to build on last season’s progress.
Eligibility reshapes roster
The NCAA’s new ‘5‑in‑5’ rule now permits student‑athletes to compete for up to five seasons, a change that has opened the door for players like Miller and linebacker Brayden Johnson to consider a fifth year.
Johnson, an All‑Mountain West linebacker, remains undecided. He recently announced his upcoming wedding in November and said he is focusing on moving forward with his personal plans, even as the prospect of returning to Wyoming lingers.
Beyond the statistics, Miller has been staying in shape and attending classes at Wyoming, signaling a commitment to both his academic pursuits and a potential professional football pathway.
