Boston College’s men’s hockey program is entering a pivotal off‑season, marked by the departure of longtime associate head coach Brendan Buckley after eight years of service.
Buckley, a former captain and key recruiter, helped steer the Eagles to multiple Hockey East championships and contributed to the development of several NHL‑bound players.
A Strategic Shift in the Program
His exit follows the arrival of head coach Mike Brown in 2023, who succeeded Jerry York, signaling a new direction for the storied program.
Despite the coaching change, the roster is set to welcome two highly touted freshmen for the 2026‑27 season, each bringing distinct skill sets and international experience.
Forward Jack Queally, a U17 prospect from Massachusetts and one of only two New Englanders selected for the United States National Team Development Program, has committed to join the Eagles. Known for his versatility at center and wing, Queally will train with the NTDP’s U17 squad in Plymouth, Michigan before arriving on campus.
Also pledging to the class of 2026‑27 is Olivers Murnieks, the fourth‑round pick of the Anaheim Ducks in the 2026 NHL Draft. The Latvian center, who previously faced a potential extra year in the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League, will represent his nation at upcoming U18 and U20 World Championships.
Both players are expected to enrich the Eagles’ depth and inject fresh talent into a squad that has consistently competed at the top tier of collegiate hockey.
Looking Ahead
The program’s recent commitments underscore a proactive approach to maintaining competitiveness while navigating transitional phases. Fans and analysts alike will watch closely as the new cohort integrates with returning veterans under Brown’s leadership.
With a legacy of success and a pipeline of emerging talent, Boston College’s hockey future appears poised for continued excellence.
