A Defensive Blueprint for 2026
The Seffner (Fla.) Armwood Hawks finished the 2025 campaign with one of the most stingy defenses in the state, allowing just 72 points over 14 games. That unit will be the cornerstone of the program as it prepares for the upcoming season, according to head coach Evan Davis.
Linebacker Theo Wilson headlines a group that also features defensive linemen Errol Demontagnac and Urvick St. Jean II, both of whom anchor the front seven. Their presence gives the Hawks a depth that was missing a year ago, and Davis believes the trio can keep the pressure on opposing offenses.
At quarterback, Kehber Nijher has arrived from Tampa (Fla.) Plant, bringing a dual‑threat skill set that includes the ability to scramble and deliver accurate passes on the run. His mobility adds a new dimension to the offense while the team integrates a revamped secondary.
Testing Against the Nation’s Elite
To gauge their readiness, Armwood will open the season against Ramsey (NJ) Don Bosco Prep on Aug. 28. The matchup is designed to expose the squad to top‑tier competition and to sharpen the defense before the state playoffs.
The ultimate goal is a return to the state championship game, a stage the Hawks haven’t reached since 2018. With the Florida High School Athletic Association overseeing the tournament, the team hopes its defensive identity will be enough to break through the final barrier.
Beyond the field, the program emphasizes growth and preparation for higher levels of play, ensuring that each player, from Wilson to Nijher, understands the expectations that come with representing Armwood at the highest state competition.
