The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s women’s soccer program is gearing up for its 2026 campaign, opening the season against Texas Southern on August 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. The match marks the first test for a squad that finished the previous year with a 6‑10‑2 record but missed the Southland Conference Tournament.
A New Direction
Head coach Nataki Stewart, who took the helm this offseason, speaks of resilience, grit and teamwork as the cornerstones of her philosophy. In a recent interview she highlighted the importance of building a cohesive unit both on and off the pitch, and expressed confidence that the players are ready to translate preparation into performance.
Returning veterans Ericka Parker and Linnea Eld bring senior leadership to a roster that also welcomes fresh faces such as Angelina Burtini, Londyn Johnson, Yarisah Perez and Melany Gallegos. Sophomore striker Isabella Burtini, who recorded three goals in twelve appearances last season, is expected to bolster the attack, while Eld will anchor a defense that aims to create space between midfield and backline.
Coach Stewart’s strategy centers on resilience and collective responsibility, encouraging the tight‑knit group to embrace each challenge as an opportunity to grow.
