Marquette University’s women’s basketball program is set to lean on a pair of home‑grown talents as the 2026‑27 season approaches. Coach Cara Consuegra announced the addition of Kayl Petersen and Noelle Anthon, two Wisconsin natives whose roots run deep in the state’s basketball tradition.
Petersen, a Waupun native, first committed to Marquette in 2022 before a stint at Virginia Tech. At Waupun High School she helped the team capture WIAA state championships as a sophomore and later contributed 3.2 points per game during her time with the Hokies. Her return to the Marquette roster is seen as a strategic move to blend experience with local familiarity.
Anthon, hailing from Oconomowoc, climbed the junior‑college ladder at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas before earning a Division I scholarship. As a sophomore she posted 10.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, numbers that caught the eye of Marquette’s coaching staff. Her work ethic and disciplined approach are expected to add depth to the squad.
Consuegra’s decision to prioritize Wisconsin‑born players reflects a broader aim to strengthen community ties and boost morale. By weaving local narratives into the roster, the coaching staff hopes to galvanize fan support and create a rallying point that resonates beyond the court.
