North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina is set to make history as the centerpiece of a landmark NASCAR tripleheader weekend in May 2027, marking the track’s 80th anniversary.
A Milestone Weekend for NASCAR
The celebration will unfold over three consecutive days, May 21 through 23, featuring the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series on Friday, the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series on Saturday, and the NASCAR All‑Star Race on Sunday.
The All‑Star Race will be the first nighttime edition of the event since 1985 and will carry a $1 million prize for the winner, underscoring its elevated status.
Innovation Takes Center Stage
NASCAR is collaborating with teams, drivers and the speedway to introduce a unique innovation element, potentially altering race formats or car specifications to test bold new ideas.
Marcus Smith, President and CEO of Speedway Motorsports, described the All‑Star Race as "the race of innovation", emphasizing the bold experimentation that fans can expect.
The speedway’s storied past dates back to its debut on May 18, 1947, and it once hosted the finale of NASCAR’s inaugural Strictly Stock season in 1949.
After closing in 1996, the track reopened in 2023 following a major restoration, positioning it to host what organizers anticipate will be the most significant NASCAR race weekend in its history.
The upcoming tripleheader not only honors the venue’s heritage but also signals a forward‑looking chapter for NASCAR, blending tradition with cutting‑edge competition.
