The Idalou Wildcats are poised to make another deep run in the 2026 season, riding the momentum of a 10‑4 campaign that saw them advance to the UIL Class 3A Division II state quarterfinals. High expectations surround the team as they look to capitalize on last year’s success.
A Season of Promise
Head coach Clay White, now in his fifth year at the helm, brings a 37‑16 record over two decades of coaching and has already cemented his reputation as a steady builder of talent. His experience and leadership provide a solid foundation for the squad.
With 14 starters returning, the Wildcats enjoy a rare depth that positions them as favorites in Region I. The coaching staff believes the experience gained from last season’s playoff push will translate into stronger performances on both sides of the ball.
Among the standout seniors, running back/linebacker AJ Huddleston emerges as a leading candidate for Player of the Year after posting 1,200 rushing yards, 325 receiving yards, 115 tackles and 10 forced fumbles a year ago. His all‑purpose skill set makes him a focal point of the offense and defense.
Wide receiver/defensive back Cooper Hammock‑Wilson, who logged 67 catches for 1,125 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior, adds a dynamic playmaking threat, while tight end/linebacker Peytan Moyers contributes 88 tackles and 10 sacks, underscoring his versatility.
The season opener is set for August 28 against Sweetwater, kickoff at 7 p.m., a matchup that will test the team’s readiness early in the schedule. Community excitement is building as fans anticipate a strong start.
With a blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talent, the Wildcats aim to translate preseason optimism into another successful campaign, with the ultimate goal of returning to the state championship game.
