Camp Brings Basketball Joy to Local Youth
The Detroit Pistons Academy is set to bring a youth basketball camp to Battle Creek on August 22, offering a morning of instruction and fun for children in grades three through nine at the Full Blast Recreation Center.
Held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the camp welcomes boys and girls in grades three through nine and emphasizes fundamental skills, teamwork and confidence building on the court.
Organized by the B2 (B‑Squared) Foundation, the event aligns with the nonprofit’s mission to expand sports, education and enrichment opportunities for youth across Battle Creek, Albion and Kalamazoo.
"This camp embodies our commitment to providing high‑quality experiences regardless of a family’s financial situation," said Brittney R. Dowdy, executive director of the B2 Foundation. "We’re thrilled to partner with the Pistons Academy and local stakeholders to open doors for our kids."
Academy staff will lead drills, scrimmages and skill stations designed to sharpen shooting, passing and defensive techniques, while also emphasizing sportsmanship and personal growth.
The initiative reflects a broader push to increase access to youth sports and enrichment programs, leveraging community collaboration to create lasting impacts that extend far beyond a single day of play.
