The New York Cosmos announced today that they have secured the services of Bangladesh international midfielder Shamit Shome for the remainder of the USL League One season, a move that adds depth and experience to a squad eyeing a late‑season surge.
A Boost for the Midfield
Shome, 28, arrives after four seasons in Major League Soccer and a stint with Cavalry FC in Canada’s Premier League, where he made 62 appearances and established himself as a reliable presence in the middle of the park.
His professional journey also includes a period with the Montreal Impact, where he contributed to the club’s attack while honing his tactical awareness, and he brings a decade of top‑tier football experience to the Cosmos.
On the international stage, Shome debuted for the Bangladesh men’s national team in June 2025 during AFC Asian Cup qualification and immediately marked the occasion with his first senior goal against Hong Kong in October, a moment that underscored his ability to influence games at the highest level.
Head of soccer Giuseppe Rossi praised the midfielder’s blend of experience and leadership, stating that Shome’s arrival aligns with the club’s ambition to blend youthful vigor with seasoned insight as they chase a playoff berth.
Speaking about the move, Shome expressed enthusiasm for joining a franchise steeped in soccer history, noting his admiration for legends such as Pelé and Franz Beckenbauer and his eagerness to contribute to the Cosmos’ storied legacy.
