Auburn’s preseason camp has been marked by a surprising lack of injuries, giving the coaching staff ample opportunity to evaluate a deep group of young players. The Tigers have been able to run extended drills without the setbacks that often plague early‑season workouts.
A RB’s Road Back
Bryson Washington, the Baylor transfer who arrived in Auburn with a 1,861‑yard, 18‑touchdown résumé, has been slowly reclaiming his place on the field. After missing the final practice of Week 1, he returned for the second session of Week 2 on August 12, drawing attention from both teammates and coaches.
Running backs coach Larry Porter noted that Washington’s first few days back showed noticeable improvement, describing the running back’s movement as sharper than it had been during the spring when he was still nursing lingering injuries.
Head coach Alex Golesh added that Washington’s availability only became realistic in the weeks leading up to the A‑Day game, emphasizing that the team has been cautious about rushing him into full‑speed action.
Alongside Washington, newcomers Omar Mabson and Gavin Jenkins have begun to carve out roles in the backfield, providing depth that could prove vital as the season progresses. Their emergence reflects a broader trend of the Tigers’ youth stepping up while the program manages a limited injury list.
