A Community Rallies Around Coach Dion Wilson
Dion Wilson, a longtime custodian and flag football coach at Casa Grande High School, has become a focal point of community concern after a sudden series of strokes landed him in the hospital. His wife Rayona and their four children now face an uncertain road to recovery.
Wilson’s recent honor as Sonoma County’s Classified Employee of the Year and his role in launching the school’s first girls flag football team in 2023 highlight a career defined by service and mentorship.
A GoFundMe page set up to support the Wilson family has already raised more than $7,600, and a coordinated meal‑train has begun delivering home‑cooked meals to the household.
Neighbors, former students and local businesses have signed up to bring breakfast, lunch and dinner each day, while cash contributions help cover medical bills and everyday expenses.
Voices of Support
"He would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation," says Jennifer Bagwell, the Casa Grande volleyball coach, recalling Wilson’s habit of stepping in to help anyone in need.
The school’s football Instagram account posted a tribute, calling Wilson "an incredibly important part of the Casa Grande family" and expressing love and appreciation for his mentorship.
Beyond the immediate outpouring, Wilson’s dedication to students, staff and athletes continues to shape the campus culture, a legacy that will endure as he focuses on his recovery.
