The Syracuse Orange women's basketball team will open the 2026‑27 season at home against Sacred Heart on November 3, inside the iconic JMA Wireless Dome. The matchup marks the second meeting between the two programs since 2005, a milestone that has the fan base buzzing.
A reunion after two decades
Their last encounter came in 2005, when Sacred Heart posted an 84‑57 victory. Since then, the Orange have built on that experience, finishing the previous campaign with a 24‑9 record and a second‑round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Syracuse enters the new season with a core that returns five players, among them ACC Freshman of the Year Uche Izoje. Now a sophomore, Izoje is expected to be a catalyst for an offense that aims to build on last year’s ACC success.
Across the court, Sacred Heart will be led by head coach Jessica Mannetti, who begins her 14th season at the helm. The Pioneers finished 13‑18 overall and 10‑10 in the MAAC, bowing out in the tournament quarterfinals.
