WMU Women’s Soccer Reboots with Martin and Thomasma’s Return

Graduate stars Drew Martin and Heidi Thomasma join forces again as Broncos eye strong 2026 season

Key Additions Strengthen Broncos’ Outlook

Western Michigan University’s women’s soccer program is set to benefit from the return of two standout graduates, midfielder Drew Martin and defender Heidi Thomasma, who will rejoin the squad for the 2026 campaign after completing four seasons with the Broncos.

Martin arrives after a breakout year in which she captured the Mid‑American Conference Midfielder of the Year honor, earned First‑Team All‑Conference recognition and set a single‑season assist record of 13, contributing 23 points through five goals and 13 assists in 21 starts.

Thomasma, meanwhile, anchored a defense that ranked among the nation’s best, allowing just 17 goals while posting ten shutouts; her three offensive strikes, including a decisive goal in the MAC Championship, helped the team claim the tournament title.

The Broncos have already tested their chemistry in exhibition matches against Purdue Fort Wayne and Oakland, and they will soon face Saginaw Valley State at home before opening the season on August 18 in Honolulu against Idaho.

Head coach Lewis Robinson emphasized that the experience, talent and leadership of Martin and Thomasma are pivotal to the team’s aspirations, noting that their familiarity with the program’s standards will help shape a competitive outlook.
