Preseason Honors
The Missouri Athletic Club’s Herman Trophy, long regarded as the pinnacle of individual achievement in women’s soccer, has released its watch list for the upcoming season, and two Iowa Hawkeyes have secured spots on it.
Sofia Bush, a fourth‑year midfielder for the University of Iowa, earned her fourth consecutive preseason nod, a testament to her consistent impact in the midfield. United Soccer Coaches named her a ‘Midfielder to Watch’, and she sits at No. 57 in the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Top 100.
Teammate Millie Greer, a fourth‑year defender, also made the list, marking the third Hawkeye to receive the honor. United Soccer Coaches labeled her a ‘Defender to Watch’, and she is ranked No. 72 in the same preseason Top 100.
What the Herman Trophy Means
The Herman Trophy is awarded annually to the nation’s most outstanding Division I women’s soccer player, as voted on by head coaches across the country. The 2026 recipients will be revealed on January 8, 2027, during a ceremony in St. Louis, Missouri.
Both Bush and Greer will be looking to translate their preseason recognition into on‑field success as the Hawkeyes open their campaign. The team begins with a home match against Milwaukee at the Iowa Soccer Complex, an event that will be free for fans.
With the season opener on the horizon, the duo’s experience and rankings position Iowa as a team to watch early in the schedule. Their performances could influence not only the team’s fortunes but also their own prospects for the prestigious award later in the year.
