Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame Announces 2026 Inductees
The Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame has revealed its 2026 class, honoring 33 former prep stars who have left a lasting mark on the sport.
The selections are dominated by running backs, with a dozen of the inductees specializing in that position, underscoring the state's rich tradition of ground‑breaking rushers.
Running Backs Lead the 2026 Class
Twelve of the 33 inductees are running backs, a testament to the state's emphasis on power rushing and the coaches who have cultivated these athletes.
Among the honorees are former Atlanta Falcons standouts Chuck Smith and Terance Mathis, both of whom were key contributors to the team's 1999 Super Bowl run.
Smith, who starred at Clarke Central High School, recorded 8½ sacks during his defensive end tenure in the 1980s, while Mathis, a Redan alumnus, amassed 1,136 receiving yards and earned All‑America honors at New Mexico.
Patrick Pass, another Georgia native who later played in the NFL, is also part of the class; he set a DeKalb County record with 5,004 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns at Tucker High School.
The induction class reflects a blend of defensive prowess, offensive explosiveness and sheer durability, illustrating the depth of talent that has emerged from Georgia's high schools over the decades.
A Legacy of Excellence
The 2026 cohort not only celebrates individual achievement but also highlights the broader impact of Georgia high school football on the national stage, with many alumni going on to successful college and professional careers.
