A Strategic Addition to the Redbirds Coaching Staff
The Illinois State baseball program announced this week that Chase Brundage will step onto the coaching staff as an assistant, bringing a seven‑year tenure at Des Moines Area Community College to the Redbirds' bench.
At DMACC, Brundage served simultaneously as pitching coach, catching coach and recruiting coordinator, a trio of responsibilities that allowed him to shape talent from the mound to the backstop.
Under his direction, the DMACC pitching staff captured 22 ICCAC Pitcher of the Week honors, amassed 14 All‑Region selections and earned four National Pitcher of the Week citations, while the catching unit posted the highest caught‑stealing percentages in ICCAC history in 2024 and 2025.
His recruiting acumen resulted in nine pitchers committing to NCAA Division I, II and III institutions and two more signing with NAIA programs, a testament to his ability to attract top talent.
Brundage’s collegiate journey began at Urbandale High School in Iowa, where he was a key member of back‑to‑back state championship teams in 2018 and 2019, before earning an Associate of Arts in 2021 and a Bachelor of Liberal Studies in 2023.
Steve Holm, the head coach at Illinois State, praised Brundage’s pedigree and leadership, stating that his arrival aligns with the program’s ambition to compete at the highest regional and national levels.
