Oklahoma Sooners reshuffle 2027 football slate, lock in new non‑conference opponents

Week Zero showdown with Utah State and a shifted SMU matchup headline the revised schedule

Oklahoma’s football program has unveiled a revised 2027 schedule that reshapes its non‑conference slate, setting the stage for a busy opening stretch.

Week Zero showdown with Utah State

The Sooners will open the season at home against the Utah State Aggies on August 28, 2027, in what the university calls a Week Zero matchup at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

SMU moved earlier

The previously slated September 11 meeting with the SMU Mustangs has been shifted to September 4 and will be played in Arlington, Texas, turning the contest into a neutral‑site event.

Even with those changes, the Sooners retain a full slate of SEC opponents at home, including Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and a road game at Texas in Dallas, while also hosting Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

The adjusted schedule leaves one non‑conference slot open, a flexibility the coaching staff says will be used to test emerging talent and possibly add another opponent before the season ends.

Looking ahead to 2028

Future non‑conference matchups have already been hinted at, with games scheduled against Houston, Missouri State and Temple slated for the 2028 season.
