The Seton Hall University men's soccer team recently stepped out of the locker room and into a workshop that blends athletics with cutting‑edge technology.
Working alongside the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center and the coaching staff, the players took part in a team‑building exercise that asked them to design personalized keychains using Adobe Express and sublimation printing.
Each athlete crafted a jersey‑shaped token, imprinting their name and number on both faces, marking their first foray into digital design and fabrication.
The session also produced an aluminum sign that displays the team’s schedule, fabricated with the Maker Studio’s CNC and laser tools.
A Hands‑On Approach to Team Building
Renee Cicchino, director of instructional design and training, described the Maker Studio as a space where experimentation and creative risk‑taking are encouraged, allowing participants to translate ideas into tangible outcomes.
The initiative is part of a larger effort to cultivate problem‑solving and critical‑thinking abilities through project‑based learning, giving student‑athletes a taste of innovation that extends beyond the field.
Beyond this single project, the Maker Studio offers workshops, resources and mentorship for independent creations, inviting students, faculty and staff to explore 3D printing, laser engraving, robotics and more.
