The annual Gus Macker 3‑on‑3 basketball tournament is back in Iron Mountain, Michigan, bringing together 281 teams for a three‑day showcase of skill, camaraderie and community spirit.
Local streets will be transformed into courts where families can watch timed contests, age‑specific competitions and a series of signature challenges that blend sport with entertainment.
Registration and Volunteer Coordination
Players can register onsite from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday at 217 W. Hughitt St. Volunteers receive assignments, T‑shirts and a briefing before the action begins, with a scorekeepers meeting scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at the newly opened Gus Macker Cafe.
Opening Ceremony and Competition Schedule
The tournament kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday with a series of contests on Carpenter Avenue, including the Dribble Weave, Around the World Three‑Point Shooting and the “Harder” Hook, sponsored by Kim Webb. An 8 a.m. Saturday opening ceremony will be followed by Dream Court games running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the YMCA hosts shooting contests for children aged 10 and younger.
Prizes range from cash awards in the Slam Dunk Contest to trophies for age‑division winners, underscoring the event’s competitive yet family‑friendly atmosphere.
Over the past editions, the Gus Macker tournament has raised more than $5 million for local renovation projects, including the Imagination Factory Community Center, which will see its second‑floor youth center and third‑floor family therapy clinic funded by this year’s proceeds.
The event’s charitable mission extends beyond the court, supporting the Imagination Factory Children’s Museum and fostering a “love to learn” mindset among youngsters in the region.

More than 100 sponsors, such as the Novickis Family Foundation, Farrington Foundation and IncredibleBank Foundation, back the tournament, while local eateries like Flavor Blast, Curious Pig and Elephant Ears add culinary variety. Road closures on Carpenter Avenue and connecting streets will be in effect from Friday morning through 7 p.m. Sunday, ensuring a safe environment for the weekend’s activities.
