The 13th‑ranked Colorado women's soccer team opened its season with a 2‑1 victory over the CSU Rams at Prentup Field, renewing a rivalry that had been dormant for several years.
The match was interrupted twice by lightning strikes, forcing a 90‑minute delay that stretched into heavy rain before play could resume.
Reagan Kotschau opened the scoring in the 16th minute, heading in a cross from Hope Leyba, while CSU answered with an equaliser from freshman Ava Whitehead in the 67th minute. The winning goal came in the 77th minute when Lily Zamorano, scoring her first career goal, lifted the Buffaloes ahead.

Coach Danny Sanchez praised the team’s resilience, noting the urgency they displayed after halftime, and highlighted the absences of injured players Jace Holley and Jordan Whiteaker.
