The LMU women's soccer team opened its season at Theodore Harder Stadium, where it fell 1-0 to UC Santa Barbara. Despite outshot the Gauchos 12‑10, the Lions were unable to find the back of the net, as the visitors struck first in the 15th minute after a video review overturned an initial no‑score decision.
Midfielder Elise Bolanos anchored the Lions’ midfield with relentless pressure, snatching passes and driving forward, while winger Cameron Bourne showcased speed and one‑on‑one duels on the left flank, though he could not convert his chances. Goalkeeper JJ Hoover kept the team in contention with two critical saves in the 72nd and 75th minutes, and Malia Suehiro’s late strike threatened an equalizer before being denied by the UCSB keeper.

The Lions will host Pittsburgh on Thursday, August 20 at Sullivan Field, and tickets for that match as well as the remaining home fixtures are on sale through LMULions.com.
