A Strong Start for the Miners
The UTEP Miners kicked off their campaign in front of a home crowd at University Field, where they controlled the tempo from the outset and eventually pulled away with a 2-0 result against the Lamar Cardinals.
The breakthrough came in the 15th minute when Ashlee Mora’s own effort slipped past the Cardinals’ keeper, giving the Miners an early lead. The goal set the tone for a dominant first half.
Just before the halftime break, Ashlyn Neireiter added the second marker, striking in the 45th minute to cement a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
Coach Gibbs Keeton, speaking after the match, highlighted the team’s cohesion and the importance of starting the season with a win, noting that the performance established a new benchmark for the squad.
Looking ahead, the Miners are scheduled to face Sull Ross State on Sunday at 5 p.m., a match that will test whether the early momentum can be carried forward.
