A Mexican Giant Joins the Orange
Syracuse University announced today that Iker Martinez, a 7‑foot center from Mexico, has officially committed to the program, marking a significant recruiting milestone for the basketball team.
Martinez arrives after a standout prep career at Arizona Compass Prep and Elev8 Academy, where he averaged 19.8 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game during the 2025‑26 season. His performance earned him a nomination for the McDonald's All‑American recognition and showcased his ability to dominate both ends of the floor.
Beyond club basketball, Martinez has represented Mexico at the U17 level, competing in the 2023 CentroBasket Tournament where the team finished fourth with a 2‑3 record. He also gained exposure on the AAU circuit playing for the California Stars, further cementing his reputation as a rising star.
