Worcester Polytechnic Institute announced today that John Salivonchik will join its men’s basketball program as a full‑time assistant coach, bringing a proven track record of development and championship experience.
A Proven Record of Success
During his three‑year stint at Saint Michael’s College, Salivonchik helped the team capture the Northeast‑10 Championship in 2025‑26 and secure its second NCAA Division II title in three seasons. The 2023‑24 squad set a school record with 353 three‑point makes and finished 24‑9, advancing to the NCAA East Regional final.
Prior to that, he spent four seasons at Western New England University, compiling a 50‑35 record and guiding the team to the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship game in 2022‑23. Among the players he recruited was Jake Harrison, who earned NABC Second Team All‑America and D3hoops.com All‑Region First Team honors.
Salivonchik’s early career includes a managerial role at Quinnipiac University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in management in 2019 and a master’s in sports leadership and coaching in 2022. He also honed his recruiting and event‑management skills with BasketBull, Zero Gravity Basketball and the Hoop Group.
A Strategic Addition for the Engineers
Expressing enthusiasm for the new role, Salivonchik said he looks forward to developing student‑athletes and strengthening community ties within the Worcester area. He will work alongside head coach Chris Bartley, who praised the hire as a “strategic addition” for the program.
