The Guilford High School football program enters the 2025 season with a clear sense of purpose, guided by head coach Brian White, who has built a reputation for emphasizing disciplined play and strong fundamentals.
Defensive Depth Sets the Tone
A cornerstone of the team's outlook is a defense that returns eight starters from the previous year, a unit that helped the Grizzlies finish 8‑3 and advance to the Class M quarterfinals. Seniors Chase Hall and Bryce Perry lead the front, each having posted double‑digit sack numbers and tackles for loss that ranked among the best in the league.
Hall, a senior defensive end, recorded seven sacks and nine tackles for loss, while Perry, an offensive/linebacker hybrid, added 81 tackles, 12 for loss, and five sacks. Their experience provides a solid foundation, and the secondary returns intact, ensuring continuity and depth that should help offset the loss of key offensive contributors.
The departure of running back Aidan Ruotolo and quarterback Alex Tafro creates openings that the coaching staff plans to fill with junior quarterback Ryan Lynch and sophomore Shane Connelly. Lynch, who saw limited action last season, is expected to assume the starting quarterback role, while Connelly will see increased carries in the backfield.
On the receiving end, the offense welcomes back Reed Hovick, Hyde Jacobson and Tyler Amasino, who will look to build on the chemistry that produced a productive passing attack in the previous campaign.
A Challenging Schedule Ahead
The Grizzlies' slate includes a demanding SCC schedule, featuring contests against Amity, Rockville, Xavier, Brookfield, West Haven, Lyman Hall, North Haven, Branford and Cheshire. The team finished the prior season with an 8‑3 record before falling in the quarterfinals to Brookfield, a result that underscores both the potential and the gaps the squad aims to close.
With a blend of seasoned defenders, emerging offensive talent, and a rigorous schedule, the 2025 Guilford Grizzlies are positioned to contend and aim for a deeper playoff run.
