The American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors have added a seasoned mind to their bench, naming Duncan Dalmao as their newest assistant coach. The move comes after Dalmao spent four years at the helm of the ECHL's Indy Fuel, where he cultivated a reputation for steady growth and postseason consistency.
A Track Record of Playoff Success
During his time in Indiana, Dalmao guided the Fuel to the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of his full seasons, compiling a record of 159 wins, 112 losses and 34 overtime ties. That longevity placed him among a short list of coaches who could translate regular‑season stability into repeated playoff appearances.
His playing days also contributed to his credibility on the ice. Dalmao logged 201 professional points — 49 goals and 152 assists — across 391 ECHL games for clubs in Jacksonville, Birmingham, Pee Dee, Roanoke and Greenville. In 2001‑02 he earned the league's Defenseman of the Year honor, underscoring his blend of offensive skill and defensive reliability.
Before joining the Fuel, Dalmao served two seasons as an assistant under head coach Colin Chaulk with the Brampton Beast. When Chaulk was tapped to lead the Condors, he brought Dalmao along, recognizing the coach's ability to develop talent and manage a competitive roster.
The promotion reflects a broader confidence in Dalmao's strategic vision and his capacity to mentor younger players. As the Condors aim to deepen their AHL competitiveness, his background offers a bridge between the aggressive, transition‑focused style of the ECHL and the more structured demands of the American Hockey League.
