Le Moyne College’s women’s soccer squad opened its season with a 2-0 loss at the Demske Sports Complex, where the visiting Canisius Golden Griffins dictated early play and broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Romane Lanni finished a pass from Emilia Nuttall.
First Half Dynamics
Canisius maintained possession for much of the opening period and forced McPheron into four saves, among them a crucial stop near the half‑hour mark that kept the score level. Alexa Turmel, guarding the Canisius net, repelled three of Le Moyne’s attempts, including a close‑range effort that fell just short of the target.
The second half saw Le Moyne increase its tempo, with freshman defender Ellie McMahon and sophomore forward Kaitlyn Gilhooly each delivering shots on goal, while junior forward Alivia Day added another on‑target effort. Despite three corner kicks and a flurry of attacks, the Dolphins could not find a net‑breaker, and Canisius doubled their lead in the 80th minute to secure a 2-0 victory.
