The McPherson University men's soccer program is gearing up for the 2026 season, entering under the guidance of fourth‑year head coach Kent Freund. After a 7‑9‑3 overall record and a 5‑5‑3 mark in the Kansas Conference (KCAC) last year, which included a run to the KCAC Tournament quarterfinals, Freund says the team is poised to capitalize on the momentum built by a strong finish.
Key Returning Players
Nathan Van Wyck, a forward who led the Bulldogs with 34 points (15 goals, 4 assists) last season, returns to anchor the attack. Van Wyck also ranks fifth all‑time at McPherson with 30 career goals and 69 career points, earning Second Team All‑KCAC honors for his efforts.
Joining Van Wyck in the front line are fellow forwards Zane Sullivan and Elliot Powrie, each of whom contributed four goals a year ago. On defense, Abdul Nafiu Moro, an All‑KCAC Honorable Mention, also returns to shore up the backline.
Coach Freund expressed excitement about the upcoming campaign, noting a blend of seasoned veterans and a fresh recruiting class that should add depth and versatility. He believes the mix of experience and new talent will give the Bulldogs a competitive edge as they navigate a demanding schedule.
