Texas Tech announced that it will host New Mexico on September 18, 2027, at Jones AT&T Stadium, a date that had been left open after North Texas withdrew from the 2027 non‑conference slate.
A historic series renewed
The contest will be the 46th overall meeting between the Red Raiders and the Lobos, a rivalry that dates back to 1931 when Texas Tech first defeated New Mexico 32‑6 in Lubbock.
Home‑field advantage
Texas Tech holds a commanding 37‑6‑2 record against New Mexico, having won 14 of the last 15 encounters, and the Red Raiders are 23‑2 at home against the Lobos, underscoring a strong home‑field advantage.
The agreement also fills one of two open dates on Texas Tech’s 2027 schedule, ensuring the program maintains a full slate of non‑conference opponents while preserving a tradition of annual meetings that stretched from 1971 to 1986 during the Southwest Conference era.
Road woes for New Mexico
Lubbock’s hostile environment has been a stumbling block for New Mexico, which has dropped nine straight road trips there, the most recent a 49‑14 defeat in 2012 that featured a dominant performance by the Red Raiders.
