The bats, supplied by sports‑equipment maker Marucci and bearing the league’s seal of authentication, are placed in aging tanks at Budweiser’s St. Louis facility after a rigorous verification process. This unconventional approach replaces the standard wood chips while preserving the core aging timeline.
The game and the brew
The limited‑edition Budweiser Beechwood Reserve will make its public debut on August 13 at the Field of Dreams site in Dyersville, Iowa, during a special exhibition game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins. Initial distribution will be confined to Iowa, Minnesota and Pennsylvania, with only a few thousand bottles available before supplies run out.
A taste of tradition
Todd Allen, senior vice president of marketing for Budweiser at Anheuser‑Busch, described the project as a celebration of the brand’s century‑and‑a‑half legacy and its deep ties to baseball nostalgia. He noted that the collaboration invites fans to experience the lager in a context that bridges sport and spirit.
The aging process itself remains largely unchanged; the only variation lies in the source of the wood. Treated bat material imparts a subtle, wood‑derived nuance, but the brewer does not anticipate a dramatic shift in flavor compared with the standard lager.
