A Season of Recognition
Cal Poly’s baseball program continues to cement its reputation as a Big West powerhouse, having captured a conference‑record 11 All‑Big West honors this season.
Coach Larry Lee was recognized as the Big West Co‑Coach of the Year for the second time in his career, a testament to his steady leadership and the team’s resurgence.
Among the standout players, senior Ryan Tayman earned co‑Big West field player of the year after tying for the conference lead in home runs with 16, underscoring his power surge at the plate.
Alejandro Garza led the league in hits with 83 and posted a .337 batting average, placing him among the top five hitters and earning him a first‑team nod.
Nate Castellon also made the first team, finishing just behind Garza with a .335 average and 74 hits, while Nick Bonn anchored the bullpen with 12 saves, ranking third nationally.
Defensive excellence was highlighted by Casey Murray Jr., who captured the Big West Defensive Player of the Year award and secured a second‑team spot.
The Mustangs’ depth extended to the second team, where Dylan Kordic improved his average to .307, and newcomers Carson Turnquist and Brady Estes contributed key performances in the title race.
Honorable mentions were accorded to Gavin Spiridonoff, Jake Downing and Griffin Naess, reflecting the program’s broad talent pool.
Positioned as the second seed, Cal Poly will open its Big West Tournament defense on May 21 against UC San Diego, aiming to repeat last year’s championship run.
