Season Opener Triumph
The Campbell women's soccer team kicked off the 2026 campaign with a 2‑0 victory over Longwood, ending a drought that stretched back to 2018. The win was sealed by goals from Avery Garrett and Ava Kanaar, while Anaïs van Doesburg’s five saves preserved a clean sheet.
Garrett opened the scoring in the 40th minute, striking from close range after a quick move down the left flank. Just two minutes later, Laney Heafner’s initial effort was blocked, but the rebound fell to Garrett, who slotted the ball home to make it 2‑0 before halftime.
Kanaar added the second goal in the 82nd minute, capitalising on a breakaway that left the Longwood defence scrambling. Van Doesburg, who has now recorded four career shutouts, turned in a series of crucial stops in the second half, including a fingertip save on a long‑range effort that kept the visitors at bay.
Campbell dominated possession and outshot Longwood 13‑9, while also earning eight corners to the opponent’s three. The Camels were whistled for five offside calls, compared with four for Longwood, reflecting a slightly more aggressive attacking approach.

The team’s next test will be a home opener against Appalachian State on Sunday, August 16, at 5 p.m. The match will be streamed live on FloCollege, giving fans another chance to follow the Camels as they build momentum early in the season.
