Philadelphia Union entered their third Leagues Cup Phase One encounter against Mexican side Santos Laguna with a roster that blended experience and youthful energy.
A Quiet First Half
The opening 45 minutes produced few clear chances, leaving the score level at 0-0 as both defenses held firm.
Sordo’s Brace Breaks the Deadlock
The deadlock was finally shattered in the 48th minute when Ramiro Sordo found the net, and he added a second goal three minutes later to put Santos Laguna ahead 2-0.
Philadelphia’s starting eleven featured Ben Bender, Jeremy Rafanello, Malik Jakupovic, Rafael Uzcátegui, Geiner Martinez and Agustín Anello, while substitutes Stas Korzeniowski, Finn Sundstrom and Kellan LeBlanc logged valuable minutes in the second half.
Despite the early goal concession, the Union continued to press, but the Mexican side’s defensive organization limited any comeback attempts, resulting in a final scoreline of 2-0 in favor of Santos Laguna.
