The Carroll High School football program has cemented itself as one of the most consistent forces in Indiana high school sports, compiling 49 victories over the past five seasons under head coach Blake Betzner.
Three straight sectional championships from 2021 through 2023 highlighted a golden era, but the Cougars have stumbled in the past two postseasons, falling in the semifinals in 2024 and dropping the title game in 2023.
Senior lineman Avery Dyer, who has been a staple on the line since his freshman year, recently voiced a personal pledge to restore the team’s championship pedigree, saying the goal is clear: win the sectional crown in 2026.
Alongside Dyer, fellow senior Carter Altic echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the tight bonds that have developed among the class who have grown up playing together in youth leagues.
A season of renewal
With a core of experienced seniors returning, the Cougars hope to translate their accumulated knowledge into on‑field dominance, aiming to add another chapter to a storied history.
Coach Betzner’s mantra centers on daily improvement and discipline, a philosophy that has guided the program through both triumphs and setbacks, and now fuels the team’s resolve to rebuild.
