Seventeen players from local programs were recognized for their performances on the defensive side of the ball, earning first-team, second-team or honorable-mention honors in their respective leagues.
Defensive Standouts Across Conferences
Coaches and analysts note that the depth of talent across the Central Wisconsin 8-player, Marawood/CWC and WVC conferences reflects a growing emphasis on defensive strategy and player development in the region.
Among the standouts, Amherst’s Ayden Nerdahl paced his team with 72 total tackles and a sack, while Tri-County’s Damien Friebel combined eight tackles for loss with three sacks to help his squad dominate the Central Wisconsin 8-player league.
Other notable contributors include Max Nelson of Pacelli, who recorded 75 tackles and a forced fumble, and Eric Reincke, also from Pacelli, who added two fumble recoveries and an interception to his 67 tackles. Their efforts underscore the breadth of skill across the area’s defensive units.
The recognition extends beyond raw numbers, as players like Gage Beggs of Tri-County showcased playmaking ability with three interceptions and two defensive touchdowns, highlighting a versatile skill set that goes beyond traditional statistics.
As the season wraps up, coaches say the honorees are poised to influence the next level of competition, with several expected to attract attention from college recruiters and to serve as role models for younger players in the community.
