Brian Rudolph, a New Bedford native who once dazzled on the high school hardwood, has been appointed head coach of the Bristol-Plymouth Regional High School boys basketball program, taking over from Tim Plante after six seasons.
A New Era for Plymouth Basketball
Rudolph’s playing résumé reads like a highlight reel. At New Bedford High he served as a three‑year starter, averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds per game and earning Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors. His collegiate career continued at the NCAA Division I level, and he later represented Cabo Verde at the FIBA African Championships, helping the nation finish sixth in 2013 and tenth in 2015.
Beyond his playing days, Rudolph founded Leaders In Training (LIT) LLC, a basketball training facility and mentorship program for youth athletes, and has contributed as an assistant coach at UMass Dartmouth before returning to New Bedford High as a head coach.
The team he now leads finished the previous season with a 13‑8 record and will rely on the return of Second Team All‑Scholastic Maesyn Guillemette, among other key players, to build chemistry in its inaugural campaign under Rudolph’s guidance.
A Broader Coaching Shuffle
Alongside Rudolph’s appointment, the school announced several other leadership changes: Tim Plante will take the helm of the baseball program, Tim Mosher will coach the girls basketball team, and Peter Valente will oversee the boys track squad, rounding out a staff that aims to sustain momentum across multiple sports.
Community members and players alike have expressed optimism that Rudolph’s blend of elite playing experience, international exposure, and grassroots coaching will help the program thrive as it enters its first season under new leadership.
