A Sudden Shift in Coaching Leadership
Matt Lisle stepped down as head football coach at Berean Christian High School just five days before preseason practice was scheduled to begin, a move that surprised players, staff, and the broader community.
The school quickly named La Shawn Wells, its athletic director, as interim head coach while it evaluates the program’s next direction.
A Career Defined by Mobility
Lisle’s coaching journey has taken him through a series of high‑profile positions at Fresno State, South Carolina, Santa Clara, Cal State East Bay, Menlo College, Oregon, Oregon State, and most recently the Chicago White Sox, where he honed his expertise in both baseball and softball.
The latest step in his career is a Division I softball role at Southern Utah University, where he served as a consultant and assistant coach during the previous season, prompting his relocation to Utah.
Wells, who has long been involved in the school’s athletic administration, said his decision to step into the coaching role was guided by personal faith, reflecting on how a series of unexpected career changes have led him to this moment.
The administration expressed gratitude for Lisle’s contributions to the football program and voiced confidence that Wells’ leadership will keep the team moving forward as it prepares for the upcoming season.
